Gould employs a personal philosophy of reverse engineering and “reverse design” in which artifacts of industry are collected, categorized and machined into discrete worlds brought to life through light and motion in the artist's West Oakland workshop. Salvaging everywhere from aerospace scrapyards to estate sales and dumpsters, Nemo’s creative industry allows us, the observer, to access collective memory through his library of extinct possessions. These parts are not merely assembled but rather rescued, resurrected and given new life through a process that often takes years to complete.

Gould earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the Kansas City Art Institute in 1998, and his Master of Fine Arts degree at U.C. Berkeley in 2000. He is a founding member of Applied Kinetic Arts Collective and Lost & Foundry studios in Oakland, CA.  His work was recently featured on Discovery VR and is shown in galleries and museums throughout the U.S. and abroad.
