Vogelhaus Window

While working in the Vogelhaus Studio in Salzburg I noticed that the hallway window is made from privacy glass. The shape of the glass transforms the image of tourists visiting Mirabel Garden into an impressionistic mosaic of color. I began to think about tourism as as described by Dean McConnel in his book "The Tourist, a new theory of the leisure class" in which he discusses the quest of the modern tourist to discover authenticity in the other. I noticed that the abstraction produced by the window in combination with slow motion footage turns every person into some kind of "other" recognizable only by color and body language.
